Cannon Fodder is a top quality action game that involves a lot of strategy, requiring you to actually think about your next move. You must guide a squad of 1-4 soldiers through 72 different missions. Not so original but the way it's all put together is.
Viewed from above you must tell each soldier or group of soldiers where to move and when and what to shoot at. The Nintendo mouse is recommended but it can easily be played with a controller. Grenades can be collected to wipe out a large group of enemies or to take out buildings. Some levels even feature tanks and armored vehicles.
Obstacles are mainly trees and water. Although you can cross rivers, you can't shoot while you're in the water so you are extremely vulnerable. However neither can the enemy so you can use this to your advantage.
For the same reason, capturing and controlling bridges is extremely important. You can also use your surroundings (mainly trees and bushes) as cover and to hide and sneak up on your enemy. However, again, so can the AI which can be very impressive at times.
