Art of Fighting is a conversion of the original Neo Geo arcade coin-op and is complete with all of the original characters, stages, and moves, along with a few bonuses added, just to make it that little bit different in this version. Differences include that you can now play as Mr. Big, as well as the elusive Mr. Karate without using any cheat codes.
The gameplay differs slightly from a lot of more traditional fighting games in that you have a spirit meter. This is required for special moves and is a very effective way of forcing players to use moves in good combinations, rather than just repeating a special move over and over. Once depleted, your spirit can be slowly recharged but this leaves you vulnerable to attack. Art of Fighting also featured desperation moves for the first time in any game; when your health is almost all gone, you can perform a special combination that will unleash a deadly special attack if you have a full spirit meter.
