This game is based on the Manga series 3x3 Eyes (original Japanese title <em>San Zhi Yan</em>, pronounced <em>Sanjiyan</em>) by Yuzo Takada, the game tells the story of a young man named Yakumo Fujii. He lives in Tokyo and enjoys the life of your typical student: he studies at school, works part-time as a waiter, spends a lot of time with his friends, etc.
One day he meets a mysterious girl named Pai who turns out to be the sole survivor of an ancient race known as <em>San Zhi Yan</em> - Chinese for "Three Eyes". Many years ago they discovered the secret of immortality, but in this process many lost their human form and mutated into terrible demons. Pai longs to be human once more.
<em>3x3 Eyes: Seima Kourin Den</em> is very much a console style RPG but unlike most 16-bit RPG's it is set in the present. You can travel around by plane or more interestingly on Pai's friendly local demon! Throughout your adventure Yakumo and Pai meet other characters whom they can interact with and will often join them on their quest. The game features all the locations you might expect, including cities and dungeons, where they battle their foes in a traditional turn based setting. All battles are viewed in the first person and each character has their own unique spells and techniques.
